Firefighters in the upper North Island have been busy battling several large scrub fires today.
Northern communications shift manager Jaron Phillips said a large peat and scrub fire, measuring about 3000 square metres, in Glenview in the Waipa district had been contained this afternoon.
"It was burning in a paddock and not near anything," he said.
Further north, a slightly smaller scrub fire measuring about 1000 square metres, in Mahurangi had been brought under control by several water tankers.
Initially, firefighters had feared for a nearby rest home, however the blaze was contained before it threatened the property, Mr Phillips said.
