Firefighters battling a large scrub fire on Auckland's west coast have managed to contain it.
Fire Service senior communicator Nicole Bernard said the fire on Karekare Road - which leads to the popular Karekare surf beach - was about 20 hectares in size when crews arrived about 1.30pm.
It was now contained to a cliff, one hectare in size, she said.
Seven fire trucks are currently attending the fire, and a helicopter was also bucketing water onto the blaze.
Ms Bernard had not had any reports of property being under threat from the fire.
