Firefighters are today continuing to battle a large peat fire south of Hamilton.
The Fire Service was called to the blaze in Rukuhia around 3pm yesterday.
Spokesman Scott Osmond said the fire covered an area about 300x50m and was being brought under control.
An appliance from Pirongia and two tankers were tackling the western flank of the fire, and would soon move to eastern side, in an attempt to ensure it did not spread, he said.
Mr Osmond said no buildings or property were at risk from the fire, which was left to burn unattended overnight.
He did not know what caused the blaze.
