More than 50 firefighters and a helicopter have fought a blaze in Waikato this afternoon which burned through at least 7ha of scrub.
Fire Service northern communications shift manager Dallas Ramsay said about 54 firefighters were in attendance after the blaze was reported about 12.45pm.
Ms Ramsay said the fire was near the sand dunes on Maunsell Rd, off the Port Waikato-Waikaretu Rd.
All fire personnel were called off the job before 5pm and the fire was handed over to the Department of Conservation.
Ms Ramsay said the fire was extinguished and hotspots were being dampened down.
