A volunteer firefighter has been treated for heat exhaustion after a 100-year-old house went up in flames at Opotiki near Whakatane overnight.
Opotiki volunteers responded to the call and found the house burning fiercely when they arrived just after midnight.
A second alarm was transmitted and more firefighters turned out.
The firefighter was treated by ambulance staff who were called to the scene.
The house was believed to have been badly damaged.
