A veteran fireman has died while attending a suspected deliberately-lit car fire.
Waipukurau Volunteer Fire Brigade chief officer Gary Weaver said Roly Webb, 58, had 26 years fire service.
Mr Webb collapsed while attending the car fire in Waipukurau.
He is survived by wife Frances, and two adult children, a son who lives in Australia and a daughter who lives in Napier.
He was well known in the town, and Mr Weaver said: "The fire brigade was his life."
