A Canterbury firefighter remains critically ill in hospital after suffering a heart attack during a training exercise.
Terry Hutchinson collapsed after a chainsaw exercise yesterday.
Fire Service spokesman Mark Chubb said his colleagues began CPR on the 56-year-old and called for assistance from St John.
Mr Chubb said Mr Hutchinson was flown to Christchurch Hospital by rescue helicopter and is now in the intensive care unit.
