An Earthquake Commission (EQC) loss adjuster fired for rude behaviour says the organisation demanded an unsustainable work rate and managers threatened to dismiss anyone who did not meet targets.
Australian Shane Munt was sacked on December 31 after Christchurch resident Georgia Travis complained he was rude and made her cry while inspecting her property last month, the Press reported yesterday.
He also suggested her claim was fraudulent, she said.
Mr Munt said he had been polite to Ms Travis, even though she was "difficult to deal with".
He said the EQC demanded adjusters conduct six inspections a day.
"In my opinion, you can't do six fully in that time. They placed importance on numbers rather than inspections that were fully done."
The EQC has fired fewer than 10 assessors - the collective term for estimators and loss adjusters - since the September 4 quake.
EQC chief executive Ian Simpson said assessors were expected to complete six inspections a day, but rejected any suggestion that quality had been compromised.
Mr Simpson said Mr Munt lost his job because of Ms Travis' complaint and other unrelated issues.
