KEY POINTS:
Keen gun club member Garth Gadsby managed to squeeze in a little extra duckshooting at the weekend after his sentencing for taking a pot shot at fleeing burglars was delayed.
Gadsby, 60, was found guilty last month of recklessly discharging a firearm at the vehicle of burglars fleeing the Wairarapa coastal village of Ngawi in September 2006.
He was due to be sentenced last Friday but the hearing was postponed until May 27 due to unavailability of the judge and his lawyer.
"I was hoping it was going to be over but what will be, will be," he told the Wairarapa Times-Age.
After waiting 19 months "another couple of weeks isn't going to hurt".
In the meantime, he has been enjoying duckshooting with friends.
Despite having his gun licence confiscated by police as a condition of bail, Gadsby has been able to shoot under the supervision of others who do hold a licence.
The prosecution said that Gadsby shot at burglars fleeing in a stolen car after raiding holiday homes in Ngawi but Gadsby said he only aimed at the car's tyres and the burglars were not in any danger.
