A man arrested in the toilets of a fast food outlet a day after allegedly pointing a gun at a police officer has been charged.
Police had been hunting 25-year-old Hayden Rizvi after he allegedly pointed a firearm in the face of an officer who was chasing him on foot yesterday.
He was taken into custody at a food outlet on Manukau Road, in Epsom, this morning.
Police this evening said they had laid a number of charges against Rizvi, including using a firearm against a law enforcement officer, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, failing to stop for flashing lights, reckless driving and driving while forbidden.
Further charges were possible.
Rizvi will appear in the Auckland District Court tomorrow.
Police earlier today thanked the media for their help with the search.
"We would also like to thank the many members of the public who have expressed their support for our staff."
Rizvi is alleged to have stolen a car from Selwyn St, in Onehunga, when he was spotted by a police officer, who chased him.
As the officer chased Rizvi, he is alleged to have stopped before pointing a gun in the officer's face.
