KEY POINTS:
The elderly woman killed in a fire in Hawke's Bay this morning probably died from smoke inhalation, police say.
They have released the name of Gwendoline Rona Kupa, 87, who died in the house fire at Haumoana near Hastings.
Four people were in the house when the fire broke out about 3.15am.
Eastern districts communication manager Kris McGehan said police believed Mrs Kupa may have died from smoke inhalation.
Three other family members were also in the house at the time of the fire. Two were taken to Hawke's Bay Regional Hospital.
A male was later flown to Wellington Hospital with serious injuries.
It was too early to determine the cause of the fire and whether or not it was accidental or suspicious.
