Fire Service officers are still trying to establish what caused a fire that destroyed a garage and three classic cars in the Napier suburb of Taradale early yesterday.
The blaze was reported at 12.15am at Huxtable Motors and the Little Tyre Shop and destroyed vehicles including a Chevrolet Suburban, 1965 Mustang, 1970 Mercury Cougar and an off-road racer before fire fighters could bring it under control.
A Napier Fire Service spokesman said investigators were at the scene this morning and may have a clearer picture of what happened by this afternoon.
The fire also spread to an upstairs office of another business, Arrow Auto Electrix and Alarms, and the extent of the damage to the building's structure was being assessed.
