Fire officer critical

A senior Auckland fire officer was last night in critical condition in hospital after his motorbike was in a crash involving an alleged drunk driver.

The man, who has not been named, was injured when his motorbike and a car collided in Birkdale Rd on Sunday night.

The 20-year-old driver of the car has been charged with excess breath alcohol and faces further charges. He will appear in court on Thursday.
