Firefighters have been called to Parliament this morning after a small fire broke out in the library.
The Fire Service was alerted to the fire at around 10.45am this morning when Parliament's internal sprinkler system was set off on the third floor of the library.
Assistant Area Commander Paul Smith said the fire started in the library's switchboard, and it appeared to have been put out by the sprinklers.
"It's under control ... but we're still monitoring it and we can't confirm the fire's out at this stage," Mr Smith said.
It was not known whether the fire or sprinkler system had damaged the building, which has a Category 1 heritage classification.
