Fire safety officers are investigating the cause of a fire which destroyed an historic Hawke's Bay homestead last night.
The around 100-year-old property, in Pakowhai Rd in suburban Frimley, north Hastings, was well alight by the time firefighters reached the scene.
The house was usually rented out but was believed to be unoccupied at the time.
A Hastings fire spokesman said today the blaze was not thought to be suspicious but fire safety officers were investigating.
