KEY POINTS:
Volunteer Northland firefighters helped to save Kawakawa Returned Services Association clubrooms from total destruction in a major overnight blaze.
The alarm was raised shortly before 1am and volunteer firefighters from Kawakawa, Paihia and Kerikeri battled for two hours to bring the blaze under control.
Station officer Damien Southorn said the kitchen and meeting room were badly damaged but other parts of the building were saved.
The cause of the fire is not thought to be suspicious.
