KEY POINTS:
Police are investigating a fire that damaged an unoccupied part of Southern Cross Hospital in Hamilton this morning.
The fire comes after a number of used clothing bins, telephone boxes and rubbish containers had been set alight in the area since the beginning of the year.
Hamilton City CIB detective sergeant Robbie Hermann said no patients or staff had been injured in the fire.
He said the fire was noticed just before 6.00am this morning.
The sprinkler system had activated quickly, which minimised the damage, he said.
Police are calling on anyone who has information about the fires.
