Mokoia Intermediate staff expect the school to be re-opened today after a clean-up following fire.
The blaze in the early hours of Monday, which destroyed two classrooms and resulted in six others being water or smoke damaged, is being treated as arson.
The school has been closed since and staff have been busy cleaning up the "war zone" the fire created.
Board of trustees chairwoman Elspeth Goodrick, who helped with the clean-up, said the classrooms were in a shocking state.
The school's principal, Deborah Epp, said the school had arranged for counsellors to be available for parents and students and she was amazed at how Rotorua had got behind the school.
