About eight hectares of forest has been burned by a blaze in rural Masterton, with crews still on site last night to keep the fire under control.
Wairarapa principal rural fire officer Phill Wishnowsky said fire services were called to Ngahape Rd about 9.30pm on Wednesday.
The fire was in the Stronvar block of Ngaumu forest, owned by Juken New Zealand.
"It's under control, which means we are no longer fighting an active fire," said Mr Wishnowsky.
He said it was unclear what area had been affected but he estimated about eight hectares were burned.
