Fire crews are fighting a large fire in the Ardgour Valley at the north end of the Dunstan Range, near Tarras.
Three helicopters are fighting the fire with monsoon buckets alongside crews from the Otago Rural Fire Authority and Department of Conservation firefighters.
A large plume of smoke can be seen from State Highway 8.
