After responding to more than 200 weather-related calls in the last 12 hours, firefighters were called upon to rescue a cat stuck under a car's dashboard.
The vehicle is parked on Grey Ave in Papatoetoe. A member of the public called emergency services about 11.30am.
Fire service spokesman Jaron Phillips said firefighters had "no idea" how the feline got stuck, but it was wedged under the dashboard so tightly that crews will need to use the jaws of life to cut it out.
It has now been freed.
