A fire at a store north of Wellington has closed a busy stretch of the Paekakariki Hill Rd.
Firefighters were called to the blaze at the single-storey Pauatahanui General Store about 11.40am today.
Police have closed the Paekakariki Hill Rd to all traffic between Paremata Haywards Rd and Grays Rd while fire crews battle the blaze.
Fire Service central communications shift manager Murray Dunbar said the wooden building was well ablaze when crews from four fire trucks arrived.
He said police had closed the road to keep firefighters safe from traffic while they brought the blaze under control.
