KEY POINTS:
The clean-up of a vehicle fire closed the southbound lanes on Auckland's Southern motorway for a short time today.
Inspector William Taylor said at lunchtime that police and fire officers would be cleaning up the mess and it could take 40 minutes.
He said the motorway would be closed between Mount Wellington and Otahuhu and drivers should use alternative routes like Great South Road.
The road was re-opened before 2pm.
