KEY POINTS:
A fire which badly damaged two hay barns northwest of Auckland overnight is being treated as suspicious.
A Fire Service spokesman said the fires broke out in the hay barns near Helensville shortly after 3am today and firefighters spent several hours putting them out and damping down smouldering hay bales.
The hay barns were close together and firefighters were still trying to find out if the fire spread from one barn to the other or if they were deliberately lit.
