A fire at a technology block at Hutt Valley High School has destroyed half of the building while firefighters were able to save the other half.
Fire crews were quick to respond to the incident at the Woburn Rd school but the building was well ablaze when they arrived.
Nearby resident said thick grey smoke was covering the area.
A school spokeswoman told Fairfax the school has been closed for the day.
