The Fire Service has brought under control a fire at a Taranaki hotel.
Firefighters were called to Fern Lodge, known locally as The Top Pub, in Inglewood about 7.40pm, central fire communications shift manager Tim Rees told NZPA.
Eight fire appliances tackled the flames which were confined to a chimney in the building.
There were fears the blaze could spread to a timber fabrication plant behind the hotel.
No injuries were reported, Mr Rees said.
Fire crews were still at the scene dampening down hot spots.
