A 17-year-old Masterton man who stole a motorbike he later crashed into its owner, causing injuries that included the loss of a finger, was sentenced to 100 hours of community work in Masterton District Court today.
Jason Hart pleaded guilty to breaking in to the garage and stealing the motorbike from his friend Briggs Pilkington and also to dangerous driving causing injury.
On September 25, Hart drove up behind Mr Pilkington in the park and crashed into him, causing extensive injuries to Mr Pilkington's right hand, cuts to his legs and bruising to his face. Mr Pilkington's finger was severed in the collision and had to be surgically reattached.
