One or two showers will hit all the main centres over the weekend but they will be mostly light and "not enough to cancel your barbecue", Mr Corbett said.
Auckland will see a fine, dry weekend, with temperatures around 17C, with only early morning showers predicted.
Napier and Gisborne get the best of the weekend weather, with temperatures up to 19C and only a "very, very small risk" of rain.
Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin are however, will be hit by a trough moving up the country, said Mr Corbett, which could bring with it some rain. and cooler temperatures in around 15C.
However, Mr Corbett said the weekend should still be good enough for people to get outdoors and enjoy themselves.
"[It won't be] bright blue skies the whole time, but it'll not be the nasty, weather systems we have been seeing lately," he said.
