A report card of straight-A results has been handed down to Masterton District Council's finance manager David Paris from Audit New Zealand.
Auditor John O'Connell, who has been auditing the council's books for years and is about to retire doing the council meeting this week, said Mr Paris was top of the class when it came to finance officers.
"I have never worked with a better one.
"David and his staff have always been helpful to me and my team and have always produced what was needed on time."
Mr O'Connell said this year's audit was the best of many good ones the council had put forward and reflected the council was in a sound financial position.
