The venue for the Wellington secondary schools premier division hockey final between St Matthew's Collegiate and Wairarapa College on Friday night is still to be confirmed.
The original draw had it being played at the National Hockey Stadium in Wellington but with two Wairarapa teams involved Wellington hockey officials indicated it could be played at Clareville instead.
But just as the huge army of supporters of both teams were welcoming that decision came further news it had been reverted back to the National Hockey Stadium.
Ostensibly because it was the final of a Wellington competition and should therefore be played in the capital.
What's more, the start time was given at 5.40pm, thereby meaning that dozens of would-be supporters would either be unable to attend or be late arrivals because of work commitments.
Both St Matthew's Collegiate and Wairarapa College had not given up hope yesterday, however, that further discussions with the Wellington Hockey Association would convince them Clareville was the more sensible venue for the match.
St Matthew's coach Abby Hill said only a handful of Wellington people would be interested in watching the game at the NHS but if it was played at Clareville there would literally be hundreds of spectators there.
Not only that, it would also mean players could complete a full day's schooling before the game rather than having to leave early if a trip over the Rimutakas was involved.
"Both colleges are keen to play at Clareville and hopefully Wellington will see it our way," Hill said. "But at the same time we do recognise it is their competition and they have the right to dictate where the game is played........the ball is in their court and we understand that."
Finalists must wait for venue decision
