The Douglas Villa 13th grade football team have completed a hugely successful season in the Wellington JPL league by taking out the Super Six bowl competition.
The first half of the season saw Douglas Villa involved in a series where they played against seven teams from the Wellington region and their record of five wins, one draw and one loss with 36 goals for and six against earned them second place overall, and a spot in the Super Six.
Their opposition came from Stop Out, Karori, Lower Hutt City, Wellington College Gold and Kapiti Coast United and by winning all five of their round robin games (26 goals for and eight against) Douglas Villa went into Saturday's final against Wellington College Gold at Wakefield Park confident of a strong showing.
And they were even more dominant than might have been expected, winning 6-1 against a side which is more used to playing on the all-weather surface.
The successful Douglas Villa team was: Stacey Cottle, Ben Saywell, Jordan Blathwayt, Nash Hodson, Tristan Niebles, Rhys Gwyther, Simon Mazey, Corben Parker (captain), Alex Cox, Arron Herrick, Alex Britton, James Boyce, Gareth Gwyther, Max Collett, Toni Cottle, Tony Welsh (coach), Shelley Hodson (manager).
