The final results of the smacking referendum have been released, showing the "yes" vote was slightly higher and the "no" vote slightly lower than preliminary figures issued on Friday.
The "yes" vote was 201,541, or 11.98 per cent of those cast. Preliminary figures were 191,495, or 11.81 per cent of those cast.
The "no" vote was 1,470,755, or 87.4 per cent of those cast. Preliminary figures were 1,420,959, or 87.6 per cent of those cast.
The total number of valid votes cast was 1,682,717 compared with the preliminary figure of 1,622,150.
The number of invalid votes cast was 1685, or 0.1 per cent of the total.
Invalid votes were excluded from the count and include papers received late, those that could not be processed because the voter had made the barcode unreadable, or papers cancelled as a result of replacement voting papers being issued.
The number of informal votes cast - where the voter did not clearly indicate their response - was 10,421.
