Eketahuna women's coach Sid Tatana says his team's Wellington grand final with defending champions Northern United at Memorial Park on Saturday will be his swansong in the role.
"I think it's time for a new voice to step in and do the job," the typically understated Tatana said yesterday, while quickly adding that he did not want his departure to be the source of any fanfare. "This game is all about the players, it's them who have to go out there and do the business. I just try and point them in the right direction, they have to do the hard yards."
Tatana was assistant coach of the Eketahuna squad when they were runners-up to Norths in 2009 and head coach when they were again runners-up behind the same team last year, both matches lost by narrow margins.
And while he is "pretty confident" it will be third time lucky for Eketahuna this weekend, he isn't counting his chickens yet.
The only question mark over Eketahuna's starting line-up is at hooker, where Tatana has bracketed Sherryn Marshall and Teddy Nootai. One of them will join props Kelly Hunt and Christine Wolland in the front row with Raylene Reiri and Angela Taiaroa at lock, Shaan Waru and Jess Bennett on the flanks and Emma Aldworth at No8.
