An armed man pointed a pistol at tellers in a central Auckland bank and demanded they fill his satchel with cash.
Security camera film shows the man, his face covered by a blue and white bandanna and the hood of his sweatshirt, entering the Grey Lynn Kiwibank on Great North Rd at 10.12am.
He approached the counter, where a female customer was being served, and pointed a black pistol at one of the tellers.
Police said the robber put his black satchel on the counter and demanded money. He also pointed the pistol at a second teller.
An undisclosed amount of cash was put into the bag and the man walked out of the store.
Detective Sergeant Rick Veacock said the alleged robber was a thin, dark-skinned Maori about 175cm to 180cm tall. He was wearing a khaki-coloured top and long pants.
Kiwibank branches are in NZ Post stores. NZ Post head of communications John Tulloch said the staff working at the time of the robbery were shaken but unhurt.
He said NZ Post had a support service for the staff, and they had also been offered victim support through the police."
He said that because of company policy, he could not comment further on the incident.
Anyone with information about the man or the robbery should contact Mr Veacock at the Avondale police station on 820-5744 or 027-494-6683, or Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
