Last-ditch efforts to put the brakes on a law on voluntary student association membership seems to have failed.
The Education (Freedom of Association) Amendment Bill passed its committee stage in Parliament last night and looks almost certain to become law before the election.
The bill will make membership of student associations voluntary.
Labour tried a filibuster to thwart the bill.
