Fiji's deposed President, Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara, underwent brain scans in Auckland Hospital yesterday after suffering a stroke in Vanuatu on Friday.
Auckland Hospital would not comment on his condition, but a source there said he was stable and able to talk.
The 81-year-old is expected to be a crucial witness in the treason trial of George Speight and others due to start next month.
