The Government will widen travel sanctions to cover more members of Fiji's military regime, but won't formally announce the new measures until Monday.
Prime Minister Helen Clark today said ministers had decided on harsher sanctions against Fiji following the expulsion of New Zealand's High Commissioner Michael Green earlier this month.
The Pacific nation's military leader and self appointed prime minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama had accused Mr Green of meddling in domestic affairs.
Miss Clark said last week the Government intended to widen travel sanctions to include transit visas and today indicated they would also target more members of Cdre Bainimarama's unelected regime.
The sanctions would be "rolling out to others who are clearly complicit in what is happening there", she told reporters.
