A Fiji newspaper publisher charged with inciting "communal antagonism" over an anti-Muslim article has been prohibited from flying to New Zealand for medical treatment and his daughter's wedding.
Fiji Times publisher Hank Arts is facing up to 10 years in Fiji prison for his part in the publication of an article in the paper's i-Taukei language Nai Lalakai paper last April which accused Muslims of invading foreign lands, and killing, raping and abusing women and children.
It also warned that some Muslims had found their way into Fiji's parliament.
Arts is charged alongside the article's writer, Josaia Waqabaca, the Times editor-in-chief Fred Wesley, Nai Lalakai editor Anare Ravula, and Fiji Times Limited, the Fiji Times reported.
Arts applied for a variation in his bail so he could go to New Zealand, but it was dismissed by the Suva High Court, the Times reported.
