The recent Guns N Hoses Charity Boxing event may be the last for the region.
While the event was extremely successful again this year, raising close to $29,000 for local charities, organiser Masterton Police Senior Constable Dave Drummond said getting enough local police to fight was becoming increasingly difficult.
Local people needed to be in the ring on the night because local people wanted to see locals taking part, Mr Drummond said.
"This is probably the last one ... It's just getting harder and harder to find police boxers to take part. Tapping them on the shoulder to fight, they are keen to do it once but not so keen to give it a go two or three times," he said.
"It only works because it is local. The community really gets behind it and that's what makes it so successful."
