A fifth case of measles has been confirmed in Northland with the DHB desperately urging people to make sure they are immunised.
Northland DHB confirmed the latest case this afternoon and said the cases were isolated to the Kerikeri/Whangaroa area. A week ago there were only four in the Northland area.
Northland DHB medical officer Dr Clair Mills said immunisation not only protected individuals but also stopped it spreading.
"There is now a window of opportunity to catch up on any missed vaccinations. Vaccination is a much better option than having a very sick child at home for a couple of weeks or having your teenager miss two weeks of school."
The number of confirmed measles cases around New Zealand is growing, including 22 in Waikato.
