A fire investigator is probing the cause of a fierce blaze that gutted an Eketahuna home on Wednesday.
Brent Dickson, Eketahuna fire station officer in charge at the scene, said a neighbour had seen smoke coming from the unoccupied Mangaroa Rd house, which was used as accommodation for farm workers, and reported the blaze to emergency services just after 10am.
Two fire engines from Pahiatua and another from Eketahuna were scrambled to the three-bedroom stucco home, he said, which is sited about 10 kilometres from the Eketahuna township.
The blaze was well-involved by the time firefighters arrived at the scene.
Despite battling the fire for more than two hours, the home was left completely gutted with only the stucco shell remaining upright.
