Maternity services at Feilding's Clevely Centre will almost certainly close this week, at least temporarily.
Last-ditch attempts are being made to find midwives to cover some shifts and avert the temporary suspension of services, says MidCentral Health Board general manager Tony Foulkes.
At least two midwives are needed. A decision on the short-term closure is expected to be made today.
