The Prime Minister says today's launch of a new ferry service, from downtown Auckland to Beach Haven and Hobsonville Point, is a step in the right direction for Auckland Transport.
The new service will see two morning and three afternoon trips run each day, and they will take only half an hour and cost $12 a ride.
John Key was at the opening in his electorate, and says Auckland Council deserves credit for a new and different way for people to commute in Auckland.
He says the reality is that it's been tough taking public transport from various parts of his electorate and looks at using rail in the past have never been successful.
