A ferry safety drill in Wellington Harbour caused some alarm this morning when onlookers saw what they thought was a boat on fire.
Witnesses saw the Bluebridge ferry carry out a 180 degree turn, and then smoke coming from the same area.
Emergency Services received a call reporting the incident about 7am, but said the ferry's turn was part of a routine safety drill and the smoke had come from a smaller vessel nearby.
Bluebridge spokeswoman Wendy Pannett said the drill was carried out weekly and had never drawn concern before.
