KEY POINTS:
A further four night sailings on KiwiRail's Interisland ferry could be cancelled tonight after strike action by ferry workers.
Two night time crossings were cancelled after workers went on strike last night.
KiwiRail spokesman Nigel Parry said only a small number of passengers would have been affected but he could not give a figure.
"Daytime passenger sailings are unaffected," Mr Parry said.
Mr Parry would not give a reason for the strike and declined to comment further.
In a statement released by Mr Parry last night, he said KiwiRail was "committed to a speedy resolution, however it had not been possible to meet the financial demands" of the union.
It was not clear how much those "financial demands" were.
The union covering ferry workers is the New Zealand Merchant Service Guild. They were contacted for comment but have so far not returned phone calls.
