The oldest school in Masterton concluded two days of 150th celebrations with a cake cutting ceremony and release of 150 balloons by its pupils on Saturday.
Former Fernridge School pupils from the 1930s, Josephine Kerins and Margaret Smith, enlisted the help of the youngest pupils, Georgia Hepburn and Logan Edwards to help make the first slice of the cake.
With all pupils in school uniform and showing off their classes to visitors, it must have seemed like a school day - and there was even some teaching, said principal Janine Devenport.
She said about 150 people attended the celebrations.
"We're the oldest school in Masterton, still on the same site, it's something we needed to celebrate, especially in this day and age, with a lot of school closures."
