Olympic gold medal-winning kayaker Ian Ferguson's company faces two charges under health and safety legislation after a teenage girl was allegedly seriously hurt in a fall from an 8m climbing wall in Wellington last December.
The Department of Labour has charged Ferg's Kayaks with failing to take all practicable steps to prevent the accident and failing to keep the victim safe, One News reported.
The girl may have suffered a bone fracture.
Ferguson, who owns the company with his wife Alyson, would not comment on the charges but said the climbing wall was safe and the fall was a one-off incident.
A hearing is set down for next month.
The company has not yet entered a plea but if found guilty could be fined up to $250,000.
Ferguson is New Zealand's most successful Olympian, winning three gold medals at the Los Angeles Olympics and one at the Seoul Games.
