Female police officer attacked in Hamilton cells

A remand prisoner has been charged with assault after a woman police officer was attacked in the cells at Hamilton District Court yesterday.

Sergeant Gillian Meadows was punched "just under the chin" partially knocking her out and she was sent home, said Inspector Karen Henrikson.

A remand prisoner from Waikeria Prison, south of Te Awamutu had been charged with assault, she told The Waikato Times.
