A female pedestrian has died after being struck by a car in Gisborne.
She was hit on Cobden St about 11pm, a St John ambulance spokesman said.
When paramedics arrived at the scene the pedestrian was in a critical condition, but she died while receiving treatment.
Police said the woman was believed to be a local.
The driver and passenger from the vehicle have been assisting police with their ongoing enquiries.
