D-Day has arrived for trees earmarked for felling in Masterton's Queen Elizabeth Park, with Downer Tree Services at work on them yesterday.
The tree fellers had dropped five trees along Memorial Drive by mid-morning, with the spaces created destined to be part of a replanting programme.
Last week Masterton District Council, announced Downer New Zealand had been awarded a contract to fell nearly 50 trees and tidy up well over 100 others.
The contract price was $55,985.
Councillor Gary Caffell, who chairs the council's parks and open spaces committee, said yesterday felling was going as planned.
